How Riot IDs work
In Valorant (and League of Legends) your name is a Riot ID: a game name of 3 to 16 characters plus a tagline of 3 to 5 characters after a #, for example NeonPulse#EUW. Because the tagline makes the ID unique, many players can share the same game name. You can change your Riot ID in your Riot account, with a waiting period between changes.
Tagline ideas
- Your region: #EUW, #NA1, #SEA.
- Your main agent's initials or role: #DUEL, #SMOKE, #IGL.
- A short number that means something: #777, #0451.
- A matching word: Frost#Bite or Volt#Rook reads like one name.
Names that fit Valorant
Valorant's look is clean and futuristic, so the tech & sci-fi style is a good start: NeonPulse, HexNomad, NovaByte. For a sweaty ranked feel, switch to edgy. If your team callouts are chaotic anyway, the funny style gives names like GrumpyWaffle that make teammates laugh instead of tilt.
Tips for ranked players
- Short names are easier to call out. "Jaxen's B main" is faster than a long name with numbers.
- No toxic names. Riot can force a rename, and a toxic name makes teammates assume the worst.
- Keep it the same as your stream name if you create content, so viewers can add you.
Naming rules on games and platforms change from time to time. The limits on this page were correct when it was written; always check the current rules on the sign-up or rename screen. NameLaunchpad never checks whether a name is free.
