How to use the hashtag generator
- Describe the post in plain words, for example vegan pasta recipe or golden retriever puppy.
- Pick the platform. The set size follows the platform's rules and what works there.
- Adjust and copy. Tap tags to remove them or add ideas from the lists below, then copy the set into your caption.
Why a mix of niche and broad hashtags works
A tag like #food has hundreds of millions of posts, so a new post disappears there within seconds. A niche tag such as #sourdoughbread has a smaller but much more interested audience, and a post can stay visible in it for days. The generator therefore builds a set from four layers: one tag from your own words, a few niche community tags, some mid-size tags and a single broad tag. That mirrors how hashtags work today: they mainly tell the platform what your post is about, so relevant and specific beats long and generic.
How many hashtags to use on each platform
- Instagram: up to 5 hashtags per post or reel caption, a limit Instagram introduced in December 2025 (it used to be 30). Pick the five that describe the post best.
- TikTok: no fixed limit, but hashtags count toward the caption length. Three to six specific tags work well; generic tags like #fyp do not add reach on their own.
- YouTube: up to three hashtags from the description appear above the video title. A handful is enough; with more than 60 hashtags YouTube ignores all of them.
- LinkedIn: three to five professional tags at the end of the post.
- X: one or two tags at most.
- Pinterest: keywords in the title and description matter more than hashtags.
Tips for better hashtags
- Match the content. A tag that has nothing to do with the post can make the platform show it to the wrong people, and they scroll past.
- Use your own branded tag for a series or a shop, such as #AnnasBakes, so fans can find all your posts.
- Rotate sets. Copy-pasting the same block on every post looks like spam. Change at least a few tags each time.
- Avoid banned or spammy tags. Tags like #follow4follow or #like4like attract bots, not followers.
