How to choose a podcast name
Most people discover podcasts in a list of square cover images in a podcast app. Your name has to work at that tiny size and in a spoken recommendation like "you should listen to...". These rules help:
- Say what the show is about. Listeners search by topic. A name such as Beyond the Evidence signals true crime instantly; a vague name needs a good subtitle.
- Keep it short. Long names get cut off in app lists and are harder to remember. Aim for two to four words.
- Make it easy to say. Podcasts spread by word of mouth. Avoid odd spellings that people cannot type after hearing them.
- Use the description for keywords. You do not need to stuff the name with keywords. Most podcast apps also read your show description and episode titles.
- Think about the cover art. A name with a strong image, such as a map, a microphone or a halftime whistle, makes designing the cover easier.
Podcast niches in this generator
Each topic has its own word list. True crime uses evidence, alibis and case files. Comedy & chat leans on tangents, hot takes and side quests. Business & money talks founders, cash flow and Main Street. Tech & science uses signals, code and changelogs. Health & wellness is calm and steady. History & stories brings archives and lost maps. Pop culture & interviews features couches, mics and rewinds. Sports covers huddles, box scores and underdogs.
Worked example: a two-host business show
Priya and Tom run small businesses and want to interview other local owners. They choose business & money and generate a few rounds. Main Street Debrief and The Breakeven Hour stand out. They also type "Priya" into the keyword field and see Main Street with Priya, but decide a name without a host works better because Tom co-hosts. They save their favorites, mock up cover art for the top two, and search both names in their podcast app before recording a trailer.
Name, subtitle and description
Pair a short, memorable name with a descriptive subtitle in your cover art or show summary, for example "Main Street Debrief: honest interviews with small business owners". That way the name can be creative and the subtitle does the explaining.
