Roblox username rules
Roblox usernames are 3 to 20 characters long and can use letters, numbers and one underscore. The underscore can't be at the start or the end. Spaces and other symbols are not allowed, and names with personal information or rude words are blocked.
Roblox also has a separate display name, which is what most players see in games. It doesn't have to be unique and is easier to change. Your username is the permanent, unique one, and changing it later costs Robux, so it's worth choosing well.
Styles that work on Roblox
- Playful & funny: food and animal names like GrumpyWaffle or SirPickles are popular in obbies and roleplay games.
- Aesthetic & soft: lowercase names like velvetmoon or golden_fern fit café, fashion and roleplay games.
- Cool & short: two strong words make names that look good in fighting and simulator games.
Safety tips for younger players
- Never use your real name, school, city or birth year in a username.
- Pick something you'll still like in a few years. A name you chose at 9 can feel odd at 14.
- Avoid names that copy famous YouTubers or brands. They may be removed.
Worked example
Mia loves foxes and soft colors. She chooses the aesthetic style and types "fox" into "Include a word". She gets velvetfox and foxlantern. Because velvetfox is taken, she tries velvet_fox with one underscore in the middle, which fits the rules, and saves both as favorites.
Naming rules on games and platforms change from time to time. The limits on this page were correct when it was written; always check the current rules on the sign-up or rename screen. NameLaunchpad never checks whether a name is free.
